Hall house, now large house. Early C15, extended early C16, altered late C18 and re-fronted mid C19. Part timber frame with brick infill, part brick, part painted brick. Tile gabled roofs with some old tiles. L-plan with a longer wing of 4-framed bays on south; former hall in second bay from west; centre section and 3-framed wing on north which is the oldest part. 2 storeys. 3 chimneys with offset heads and clay pots. The chimneys which project on the east gable of the south wing, and the north front of the north wing are weathered and very large; the latter has 3 diamond shafts. Windows are mostly C18 and C19 sash windows with glazing bars; some casements; and some have mullions and transomes. Entrance (west) front: symmetrical. 4 bays. Tripartite sash windows with segmental heads. One-bay gable with moulded bargeboards each side of 2 bay centre section. Right hand gable projects slightly more than left gable. 6-panel entrance door; the top 4 panels have simple mould- ings with acorn ornament. Hollow-chamfered door-case with acorns and leaf motifs. East front: irregular. 4 gables, that on left projecting further forward; the 2 gables in centre section are smaller, and the right gable has large panel timber frame exposed and C20 gabled porch with plain garden door on left. The centre gables have a sash window and small casement on the first floor, and a 2-light casement window and a single-light casement window on the ground floor. Interior: south wing: exposed joists on ground floor with chamfers and shield stops; queen post roof with sooting over former hall. Inglenook chimney with bread oven on east gable end. North wing: some timber frame exposed; large arch braces to tie beam on first floor; beam on ground floor similar but with braces now removed. Redundant crown post roof, posts with large jowls. Lane Farmhouse may have been formerly 2 houses, later joined by the central section.
