Water tower. 1894 for the Wisbech Water Works Company. Common bricks (probably Flettons) with red brick dressings. Large square plan tower in classical style. Tall 3-stage stepped base; 3 storeys above with broad panelled pilasters clasping the corners and round-headed window on each floor in round-headed recess with imposts; the window and recess arches are of red brick with stone keystones. Large corbelled red brick cornice with blind tank stage above with similar pilasters, smaller cornice and panelled blocking course at top. Round arch doorway in the base with keyblock semi-circular fanlight with radiating bars and panelled double doors. The windows have cast-iron frames with margin glazing bars. Interior: The top stage contains a 100,000 gallon tank. Note: In 1884 the Wisbech Water Order allowed for increased supply of water and the construction of a water tower at Friday Bridge to supply March and Chatteris.
