CROWLE CP CHURCH ROAD (east side) SO 95 NW 6/13 Nos 1 and 2 The Cottage GV II House divided into two dwellings. C17 with mid-C19 alterations. Timber-framed, painted brick and rendered infill, thatched roof and brick ridge stack. Four framed bays aligned east/west with inserted chimney in second bay from west end to form lobby entrance plan; single storey and attic with dormers. Framing: mainly three panels from sill to wall-plate, some long straight braces in lower corners and collar and tie-beam trusses with two struts and V-strut above collar. North front elevation: windows are all 2-light casements; ground floor has three windows, two eyebrow dormers cut into thatch and two ledged and battened doors. West gable end facing road has a ground floor window and an attic light with plank weathering. Interior: roof has collar and tie-beam intermediate trusses with struts, and single tier of trenched purlins. Winder staircases retained, one flanking back-to-back fireplace. The timber-framing is amongst the most complete surviving examples in the village.
