Sculpture. 1961 by Barbara Hepworth, sited by St Ives borough council. A bronze version of the wood carving in the Barbara Hepworth museum there. A rounded, pierced form that is a good example of her mature work. The only Hepworth which is sucessfully sited in a location that demonstrates her interest in the open expanse of Cornish landscape, the sea meeting land, the curve of the bay and its tidal pull: all elements that are central to her work. It is a memorial to her association with the town.
