Spanish officials secularize the five missions of San Antonio, including the Alamo. Their lands are distributed to the remaining Indian residents of the missions.

During the Texan War for Independence, about 5,000 Mexican soldiers under Santa Ana storm the Alamo mission church, killing all 187 defenders inside. Among the dead are famed frontiersmen James Bowie and David Crockett.
