The "Roman baths" of Nîmes, now part of the beautifully landscaped Jardins de la Fontaine, refers to the waters of an ancient spring that was surrounded by Roman sacred buildings in the 1st and 2nd century CE. The formal gardens and watercourses were laid out in the 18th century by J.-P. Mareschal.
