The monument is of national importance because of its potential to contribute to our understanding of prehistoric settlement and economy. The unusual location of the site suggests that it may be of a somewhat different function to many prehistoric enclosures.

The monument comprises the remains of an enclosed settlement of prehistoric date represented by cropmarks visible in oblique aerial photographs.

The monument lies in arable farmland at around 195m OD. It comprises a D-shaped enclosure of approximately 120m diameter, with an inner ditch separated from the outer ditch by about 15m. The inner ditch is about 5m wide, and the outer ditch is some 8-10m wide. The E side of the enclosure is formed by the adjacent burn. The enclosed area is steeply sloping and seems an unlikely setting for a settlement. It is therefore possible that this represents a site of specialised function within the prehistoric landscape.

The area to be scheduled encompasses the visible features and an area around them in which traces of associated activity may be expected to survive. It is D-shaped with a N-S diameter of 170m by 115m as shown in red on the accompanying map.
