The monument is of national importance because of its potential to contribute to our understanding of prehistoric settlement and economy. The inner and outer ditches may be expected to contain valuable material relating to the economy and environment of the site.

The monument comprises the remains of an enclosed settlement of prehistoric date represented by cropmarks visible on oblique aerial photographs.
The monument lies in arable farmland at around 140m OD on a prominent summit. It comprises a sub-circular enclosure of approximately 60m diameter, with an inner and outer ditch separated by about 8m. The outer ditch is some 4m wide, the inner ditch, or possibly palisade, is about 1m wide. There are traces of a middle ditch or palisade trench, closely following the circumference of the outer ditch. There appears to be an entrance at the SE.
The area to be scheduled encompasses the visible features and an area around them in which traces of associated activity may be expected to survive. It is circular with a maximum diameter of 100m as shown in red on the accompanying map.
