The monument is of national importance because of its potential to add to our understanding of prehistoric settlement and economy. Its importance is greatly enhanced by its association with the wider landscape of prehistoric settlement remains in the area.

The monument comprises the remains of an enclosed settlement of prehistoric date represented by cropmarks visible on oblique aerial photographs.

The monument lies on a slightly raised area within an arable field at around 125m OD. It is oval measuring some 75m N-S by 50m with a NE- facing entrance flanked by slightly expanded ditch terminals. The ditch has a maximum width of approximately 4-5m but is not clearly visible on the W. There are indications of surviving internal

deposits that may relate to contemporary occupation.

The monument lies in an area rich in the remains of prehistoric settlement. The area to be scheduled encompasses the visible features and an area around them in which traces of associated activity may be expected to survive. It is circular with a diameter of 110m as marked in red on the accompanying map.
