The monument is of national importance because of its potential to add to our understanding of prehistoric settlement and economy. The apparent survival of internal structures suggests that the site will provide evidence for prehistoric house construction and the organisation of domestic space.

The monument known as Harlaw, enclosure 300m NW of comprises the remains of an enclosed settlement of prehistoric date represented by cropmarks visible on oblique aerial photographs. The area to be scheduled encompasses the visible features and an area around hem in which traces of associated activity may be expected to survive. It is sub-circular with the maximum diameter of 80m.
