The monument comprises the remains of a fort of later prehistoric date surviving as a series of earthworks.
The monument is set on a low hill, Camp Hill, on the SE edge of the Pentland range. It commands extensive views to the S and E. The fort is oval with approximate dimensions of 80m NE-SW by 60m within two ramparts and ditches. Within the fort are numerous sub-circular foundations representing former domestic buildings.
The area to be scheduled encompasses the visible features and an area around them in which traces of associated activity may be expected to survive. It is approximately oval with maximum dimensions of 170m NE-SW by 135m as marked in red on the accompanying map.
