Historical marker at Pipe Shrine House (c. 1000 CE), Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado. Partial transcription: "The ancient farmers at Far View lived in an agricultural region which extended throughout the Four Corners area, wherever dryland agriculture was possible. Anthropologists estimate that more people lived in the valley during Mesa Verde Ancestral Puebloan times than live here today. The weather and vegetation you're observing today are not too different from what Ancestral Pueblo people experienced..."
