Title
Sundial on All Souls College, Oxford
Location
All Souls College, Codrington Library, Oxford, England, UK
Caption
The sundial was designed by Christopher Wren (a busy man in Oxford). In 2006, All Souls was bequeathed an unspecified amount by a former fellow of the college, on condition that the dial was moved back to its original position on the south wall of the chapel. (It is now in the northern quadrangle.) The college, known as wealthy even by Oxford standards (and also for being a "college without any students") declined, saying the conditions were too onerous. Whatever the rights and wrongs, it looks good where it is. The motto beneath the dial reads: "PEREUNT ET IMPUTANTUR - They pass by and are reckoned."
