A brief update before bed

posted September 22, 2005 by Holly Hayes part of trip: The Great European Road Trip

It's been a long day and I'm beat, but I wanted to post a quick update before I hit the sack.

Yesterday (Wednesday) was a nice quiet day. I stayed in most of the day, working on the online photo album and finishing Harry Potter, while David went out and shopped for cell phones and got his hair cut. It was nice to have a break from all the walking for a day. In the evening we had pizza from Marks & Spencers and watched Million Dollar Baby on David's laptop. We have no couch or TV, so it was fun improvising a movie night in by pulling two chairs up to the desk in front of the computer.

Today (Thursday) we went to London for a full day of exploring and sightseeing. I've visited a number of times before, but not for a few years, and was excited to share my favorite places with David who's never been. We knew enough to just focus on one part of the huge city, and we chose the Westminster and Chelsea areas, just north of the River Thames.

We saw Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, the Millenium Wheel, Westminster Abbey, and Buckingham Palace, and then walked down to the posh (as they say here) area of Chelsea for some shopping. We went to two of my favorite stores in the world, Muji and Ordning & Reda, both of which are stationery and home accessory-type places (Japanese and Swedish, respectively). We had lots of fun, and there were no bombings today, so it was an all around success!

More details and photos to come tomorrow.
