Fresco: Descent of Christ into Limbo

This fresco of the Descent of Christ into Limbo, located in the Lower Church of the Basilica of San Clemente, dates from the 9th century and is one of the earliest depictions of this story. Alongside the scene is a portrait of an Eastern monk, who may be Saint Cyril.
