3/16 Constable Burton Mill and Mill-house

Corn watermill, water-powered saw-mill and mill house. Late C18 and early C19. Rubble with ashlar dressings, stone slate roofs. From left: later mill building of 3 storeys and 3 bays, with corn mill in first 2 bays and saw-mill in third bay on ground floor, with single-storey range projecting forward as annexe to saw-mill, and 2-storey rear outshut housing overshot waterwheel; older mill building of 2 storeys and 1 first-floor opening; house of 2 storeys with outshut and 2 first-floor windows with single-storey brick rear extension. Later mill: early C19. Coursed rubble. Quoins. Openings have deep lintels. Between first and second bays, on ground floor, board stable door, small windows in first and second bays; to right, blocked segmental-arched cart entrance obscured by saw-mill annexe. Side-sliding sash windows on first and second floors. Hipped roof to left, ashlar coping to right. Saw-mill annexe: coursed stone. Quoins. 2 board doors below deep rusticated lintels on ground floor; fixed-light window in rusticated surround in gable. To its right, C20 lean-to garage, not of special interest. Older mill: late C18. Rubble. Central board door below deep lintel; window to right with deep lintel; to left of door, stone crudely inscribed "T Robinson 1780"; board pitching door on first floor. House: late C18. Rubble. Quoins to right. Openings have deep lintels. Gabled glazed porch in front of central part-glazed 4-panel door. C20 casement windows on ground floor, side-sliding sash windows on first floor. Ashlar coping to right. Brick end stacks. Interior: later mill contains 3 pairs of millstones and gearing for 4 pairs made by Hauxwell, Millwright of Yarm.
