WINGFIELD CHICKERING TM 27 NW 5/149 Chickering Hall - -- II

Farmhouse. C16-C17 with much later alteration, especially in C19. Timber framed with C20 textured render; facade and side walls of wing rebuilt in red brick, mostly of C17 date. Plaintiled roof with mid C20 concrete tiles to rear. 2 storeys and attic. A long range with later projecting wing to the right. Mid C19 casement windows with a single horizontal glazing bar to each light. C19 brick hood moulds. 2 gabled half-dormers. C20 gabled entrance porch with mid C20 inner door. Main range has 2 internal stacks, placed axially, with groups of 2 and 3 square shafts set diamondwise. The wing-has a C17 external stack with 2 C19 diamond shafts matching the others. Interior much altered with only a little timber framing visible. Some re-used joists in attic floors. Roof largely of C19 and C20 date. Part of the house falls in Hoxne C.P.
