7/1242 Engine house to north of north range of Edge Hill 14.10.74 Station

Engine house. 1849. Built for Liverpool and Manchester Railway. Brick with stone dressings, 3 x 1 bays. Battered stone base with vermiculated rustication impost band, top string course, bracketed cornice and blocking course. Central bay breaks forward with round headed entrance, flanking round headed windows, all with stone arches with vermiculated voussoirs and faceted keys. Small-paned iron casements and paired 6-panel doors. Built to wind trains through the Waterloo Tunnel (q.v).
