WEST STREET 1. 972 (South Side) No 39A Nos 39 to 41 (consec) SU 8504 NE 3/142 II 2. Early C18 or earlier. Steeply pitched tiled roof with hip at western end. Central chimney; modern stack. 2 storeys. Nos 39A-40, plastered over; No 41, painted brick. Nos 39A and 39 have a sash window with flush box above; flat arch; glazing bars intact. Below, 2 flush panelled doors in reveals behind doorways with fluted (No 39 with moulded) frames, frieze and projecting dentilled cornice. Between the 2 doorways, a C19 shop front: 3 sided oriel bay window with glazing bars. No 40 has a similar doorway and door but with top 4 panels cut away and glazed. 1 3 sided canted oriel bay window projects through both floors, comprising a shop front on the ground floor and containing sash windows on the upper storey. No 41 has 1 later C19 sash window with flush box above; no glazing bars. C19 plate glass shop front below with doorway in recession in centre.
