TQ 3426 LINDFIELD HIGH STREET (east side) 6/227 Gates, wall & gatepiers approx 20 metres west of west front of Old Place GV II Gates, wall and gatepiers. c1880, part of C E Kempe's improvements to Old Place. Red brick walling with some vitrified headers, sandstone dressings and cast and wrought iron railings and gates. At each end there is a Dutch gabled feature in brickwork with sandstone moulded coping, flanked by square brick piers with moulded sandstone cornices and ball finials. These have 2 further brick piers with similar finials and cast iron spear railings between and, in the centre, a pair of fine wrought iron gates with Art Nouveau sinuous Scrollwork. Brick plinth.
