- King Henry VIII marries Anne Boleyn at Whitehall Palace, London. As the pope had not granted a divorce from his first wife, the marriage leads to Henry's excommunication and eventual break with the Roman Catholic church.

- Carlton House, George IV's London residence before his coronation, is demolished. Its artworks and furnishings are brought to Buckingham Palace.
- 1835
- A Parliamentary Committee concludes that the Palace of Westminster should be rebuilt in the Gothic or Elizabethan style and opens a design competition. This is won by the architect Charles Barry, who chose the Gothic style.
- 1840
