Image: Roof Boss NA15: Swan with Golden Coronet
A white swan with gold spots and a golden coronet around its neck, found among the animals of God's Creation at the east end of the nave. A swan with a coronet was an emblem closely linked with the House of Lancaster: it was used as badge by Henry of Lancaster after he married Mary de Bohun in 1380, and their son, the Prince of Wales, used it as a livery badge. Interestingly, however, this swan was carved early in the reign of Edward IV, who was of the House of York. Roof boss NA15 in the nave, c. 1470. Norwich Cathedral, England.
