Monument to Pope Pius XII, d.1958

Monument to Pope Pius XII (1939-58), who reigned during World War II. Before the war broke out he famously said, "Nothing is lost with peace; everything can be lost with war." The monument is by Francesco Messini (1964). St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City.
