The exquisitely decorated mihrab (partially seen on right), commissioned by Al Hakam II in 961. In front of the mihrab is the Maksoureh, an anteroom for the caliph and his court, also richly decorated with geometric designs and Arabic calligraphy. Mezquita, Córdoba, Spain.
