Adam working the earth after his expulsion from the Garden of Eden in the bottom row of the west window, c.1174. This panel is the oldest in the cathedral and was part of a set of ancestors of Christ originally placed in the clerestory of Canterbury Cathedral after the fire of 1174. As many as 86 ancestors were placed in these upper windows, of which 43 survive. Canterbury Cathedral, Kent, England.
