Muirdach's Cross: Beard-Pullers

Image: Muirdach's Cross: Beard-Pullers

Sculpture at the base of the northern side of Muirdach's Cross, which dates from 900-923 AD and stands 5.5m (16 feet) tall. This seems to depict two beard-pullers, a common but mysterious motif in early medieval art. Monasterboice, Ireland.
