Latin inscription on the monument placed in 1569 by by Edmund Harman (d. 1577, Burford), barber and personal servant of King Henry VIII. Church of St. John the Baptist, Burford, Oxfordshire, England. "Edmund Harman, Esquire, whom God from his earliest years blessed with countless benefits, put this monument to the Christian memory of himself & of his only and most faithful wife, Agnes, & of the 16 children whom, by God's mercy, she bore him. 1569. / I was not; then by God's will I was born to be a man: & I shall live again from my own seed. In the Great Day, the bodies, which we think have perished by decay shall rise again whole at God's word. / Drive out fear from heart. O my body I believe that you shall appear before God in Christ, for He it is that sustains you & calls you to dwell with HIm. Laugh at the threats of disease, despise the blows of misfortune, care not for the dark grave, & go forward at Christ's summons, for Christ will be to each man a kingdom, a light, a life, a crown."
