Detail of the Harrowing of Hell (described in the Acts of Pilate). Christ leads Adam and Eve and other souls out of the jaws of hell. The jaws have disappeared, but you can still see a lone fang poking up between the feet of Adam. The inscription is believed to read, "Pray to Jesus for the souls of the Lords of Warborough." This request is addressed to Mary, the patron of the church, in another inscription. Church of St Mary, Chalgrove, England, UK.
