Facciatone, Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, Siena, Italy
Facciatone The "Facciatone," a great facade built as part of a major expansion to Siena Duomo in the 14th century. The existing cathedral was to become merely the transept of a huge new structure (the Duomo Nuovo) that would surpass even St. Peter's Basilica in size. The Facciatone is the interior of the new nave's west facade. Due to the arrival of the Black Death and political conflict, it was never completed. Fine views can be had from the facade with admission to the Museo del Duomo. Siena, Italy.
