Image: Tympanum: Pilgrims

Cathédrale St-Lazare Autun, Saône-et-Loire (71), Bourgogne (Burgundy), France

Detail of the Last Judgment tympanum over the west door, sculpted by Gislebertus around 1130. Here on the lower left, the redeemed rise from their graves and head for heaven. Among them are two pilgrims with symbols on their bags - a Greek cross indicating Jerusalem and a scallop shell representing Santiago de Compostela.
