Tombstone of Stephen Gunn (d. 1813), Martha Gunn (d. 1815), and their children in the graveyard of the Church of St Nicholas of Myra, Brighton, England. Martha Gunn was the most famous of Brighton's "dippers", who helped non-swimmers bathe in the sea using special bathing machines. Dippers had to be of the same sex as their client and Martha Gunn was well-regarded for many years by locals and visitors, with her size and strength being a particular advantage for the physically challenging work.
