The de Maurices, my mum and dad, bought Anchor gate in the early 60's. It was previously owned by a Miss Currill...and before that to a gentleman who wore a top hat all the time ( the Moores next door told us)very damp and cold house..but my parents restored it and unpicked the fireplace and put a new window in the side to replace the breadoven. They replaced the back window and the kitchen window with leadlights made by a local builder. My sister Charlotte and I shared the small bedroom upstairs..She decorated the walls with luminous paintings of faces that glowed in the dark.I remember the frost ferns on the inside of the windows! we were happy there and us kids spent hours out in the counrtyside, exploring Ascott Park, and swimming in the river. However when we were teenagers both my sister and I used to see the ghost of a young girl regularly , mostly upstairs..one time I saw her she was sobbing with no sound.Have you seen her? Let me know please... I am glad to see that it has been conserved so well.
