TQ 3079 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER SMITH SQUARE, SW1 101/70 5.2.70 Nos. 1 and 2 G.V. II* Pair of terrace houses. 1726, as part of Sir James Smith's development of the square; largely rebuilt after war damage. Brown brick, with red brick dressings, tiled roofs. 3 storeys, basements and dormered mansards. Each front 3 windows wide. Panelled doors with cornice-hoods to left and right. Recessed glazing bar sashes under flat gauged arches, stuccoed reveals. Brick plat band over ground floor. Parapet with coping. Iron area railings. Part of an exceptionally well preserved early C.18 enclave with Lord North Street and Barton and Cowley Streets q.v.
