ST 68 SE WINTERBOURNE HICKS COMMON ROAD (west side),

2/41 The Mount - II

House. Mid C17, extended mid C18, further extended and refaced early C19. Rendered rubble, freestone dressings, slate roofs. Principal elevation (south): 2 storeys, 7 windows, all 8 and 10 pane glazing bar sashes, each outer 3 in pitched roof canted bays with architraves, blocking course and cornice which runs along whole front below parapet, central glazed entrance under flat hood on pilasters, above is a tri-partite window, steep pitched roof; rear is still gabled with stair turret in re-entrant angle. Return elevation (east) is now entrance; 2 storeys, 4 windows plus 2 in single storey rear wing, 2 first floor windows are blank, 2 are glazing bar sashes, below is a glazed entrance under a plain Tuscan portico, rear wing has 1 window with gothick tracery and 1 pair of 8-pane glazing bar sashes. Interior: entrance hall has stopped, chamfered beam, open well stair has turned balusters and moulded hand rail.
