CANNON STREET 1. 5104 City Centre B2 Nos 39 to 42 (consec) SP 0686 NE 33/12 21.1.70 II GV 2. Includes Nos 9 to 15 (odd) Needless Alley. Circa 1900 and so similar to No 45 Cannon Street that it, too, must be by Essex, Goodman and Nicol. Pink terracotta; slate roof. Four storeys; 4 bays gently curving with the street. Ground floor with modern shop front. First floor with canted bay windows rising through 2 storeys and terminating in balconies. The lights have ause-de-panier arches and pretty, detached scrolly members end are linked vertically by baluster-like shafts. Third floor with paired arched lights within ogee-cum-semi-circular pedimented attics against the roof.
