SU 78 NE HAMBLEDEN HAMBLEDEN VILLAGE
6/86 Nos. 78, 79, 80 and adjoining part of the Stag and Huntsman GV II
Three houses, butcher's shop and part of public house. Late C18 and early C19. Flint with brick dressings, old tile roofs, brick chimneys. One storey and attic. Taller range of 4 bays to left with slightly lower range of 2 bays to right. Right bays have narrow first floor band course, paired barred wooden casements, and central board door with late C19 stop-chamfered frame and C20 gabled wooden porch. Remainder has irregular paired barred wooden casements and sashes, the left bay with larger wooden windows of c.1900 to ground floor, the right bay with flat wooden hood over shop window and board door. Shop door has vent slits; 2 other doors to centre, the left with older frame and large rectangular fanlight. All ground floor windows to right have segmental header arches; those to left in altered openings. All first floor windows are in gabled eaves-line dormers. Range to right has curved principal trusses set into the walls. Included for group value. Main brick block of The Stag and Huntsman is of c.1900 and not of special interest.
