TL 71 NE FAULKBOURNE

2/33 Hill Farmhouse

GV II

House. Late C16, altered in C19. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. Late C16 2-bay crosswing of an earlier house, jettied to NE. To SE of it, early C19 parallel range, with central stack, and staircase hall between them. Single-storey lean-to extension to SE, with slate roof. To NW of the crosswing, service wing of indeterminate date, the roof forming a catslide to the front, with internal stack at the junction. 2 storeys. Ground floor, one early C19 sash of 16 lights, 3 C19 sashes of 4 lights. First floor, 2 similar sashes. Door to rear. Late C19 brackets below jetty, and cusped bargeboards on both front gables and right gable. The interior is mainly plastered, concealing the structure. The late C16 crosswing has moulded beams exposed above the first floor. The service wing to right has a roof of softwood, but lower parts of the structure may be of earlier date. Early C19 stair with turned newels and stick balusters. RCHM 6.
