HERTINGFORDBURY HERTINGFORDBURY HILL TL 31 SW (South side) Hertingfordbury 6/64 The Bury Farm House 24.11.66 - II

House. Early C18 origins. Rebuilt early C19, altered and raised in C20. Stuccoed brick. Hipped slate roof. 3 bays with 3 bay return wing, 3 further bays to right raised in C20. Now all 2 storeys. 3 bay front to left has early C20 entrance porch, double raised panelled doors, re-used C18 pedimented doorcase with consoles, bay leaf frieze, segmental headed lights in porch returns. All windows are recessed with sills and segmental heads, ground floor left 12 pane sash, ground floor right 3 light small pane casement. Plat band to first floor with three 12 pane sashes. 3 bays framed by pilaster strips, oversailing course to deep panelled eaves soffit. Ridge stack to left of centre. To right a further slightly recessed bay with 2 and 3 light small pane casements, triple oversailing courses to eaves. Further right 2 bays of 12 pane sashes with plat band, extruded stack with an offset, right end pilaster strip. Left return is 3 bays with 12 pane sashes, ground floor central C20 porch, first floor left dummy window, plat band, end pilasters. Right return is 1 bay with large C20 windows. To rear: 2 wings project at ends, that to right is original and extends further. Ground floor French windows, panelled reveals, architrave with pedimental head, first floor sash, plat band, end pilaster strips. Wing to left has a ground floor sash, first floor 2 light casements. To right of centre main roof continues over a lean-to projection with scattered small pane casements, left return 3 light leaded pane casements. Further left French windows, first floor Gothic glazed fixed window. Interior: fielded panelled doors and dado panelling, marble fireplaces.
