WIGSTON SP69 NW NEWGATE END (East side)

4/31 No. 10 2/9/86 GV II

Farmhouse, 1691 though with probably C18 fenestration and alteration to roof pitch in the later C18 or early C19. Brick on granite plinth with Welsh slate roof. 3 storeyed, 3 bays with central door in recent wood porch with date stone over. Flanking windows are 3 light casements with transoms. The top 2 floors have similar windows all with cambered brick heads. Evidently these are of a later date and traces of the earlier openings are visible in the brickwork. Gable and axial stacks. C17 staircase survives inside with plain newel and balusters whose tight twisted decoration resembles strings of beads.
