The Chess Gallery Mildenhall, England

In 1987, on a trip to a conference near Mildenhall, I walked into the Chess Gallery and immediately spotted an "Elizabethan" Chess Set. I had previously seen this Chess Set at a Military Base and for some reason missed purchasing it. This time I knew I would never get it if I didn't do it then. The Queen piece was Elizabeth I, with the King piece being Lord Burghiey. The Bishop pieces were Matthew Parker. Sir Walter Raleigh was the Knight pieces. The Rook pieces were modeled after Traitor's Tower. All of the Pawns were modeled after Sir Francis Drake's ship - the Golden Hind. All of the pieces were either off-white or brown and made with crushed Marble and stone. The lifetime Guarantee may be needed if a piece is destroyed somehow or just damaged slightly. After over 30 years of play the Chess pieces and Board are like new. I did find an old oak table that with its top removed, fitted the Chess board perfectly. A worthy investment. I doubt if I'll be coming back to England, but if I do, the Chess Gallery will be one of my initial stops. Right after I attend another Friday Night's party at the Sun In Splendor Pub at 7 Portobello Rd, London, London W11 3DA.
