CRANE STREET 1. 1594 (South Side) No 97 SU 1429 NW 3/64 II* GV 2. C17 late - C18 early, 2 storey and attic colourwashed brick. Projecting plinth, stone quoins, stone band at 1st floor level, plain stone frieze and small moulded eaves cornice. Hipped old tile roof (steep pitch). Flanking chimneys. 3 large hipped dormer windows with heavy overhanging moulded cornices and 2-light C19 casement windows. 5 tall narrow windows with moulded architrave frame and central perpendicular glazing bars on 1st floor. 4 ditto windows with glazing bars removed on ground floor. Central 6-panelled door with rectangular fanlight over (glazing bars removed) both in frame with headed edge flanked by narrow panelled pilasters with moulded caps and heavy carved acanthus scroll brackets supporting moulded hood with panelled soffit and moulded pediment. Interior: hall and front room east have rail and muntin panelling the latter from floor to ceiling. Panelling to 1st floor room fielded with moulded dado. Fine painted overmantel by Francis Barlow. Good staircase with turned balusters, fluted, reeded newels. Panelling to well with pilasters.
Nos 87 to 101 (odd) form an important group.
