Dr. M. C. Hawkins House Parkdale, Arkansas

  • Memory by Mary McCleary Delperdang on November 17, 2023

Dr. M.C. Hawkins was my grandfather. He died when I was three so I did not get to meet him, but I have been to this house that my mother grew up in several times. My Aunt Charlotte Hawkins, and my uncle Mark Hawkins, his wife Frances and their son Mark Jr. lived in the house when I was growing up. It is where i first fell in love with horses. My uncle had a large farm and raised crops and cattle. I used to love to go visit and sleep on the screened in porch. There is an attic that has actual stairs on the third floor and it was so much fun to play in. Once I found a Life Magazine up there that had Man of War winning a famous race from the 1920's. My cousin, Mark Jr. and his wife Hazel have redone the house and it is lovely. I have many memories there. My mother, Theresa Hawkins and sister, Charlotte McCleary Sledge are buried in the cemetery in Parkdale also.
