My wife Linda and I were the last private owners of this farm(1973--1989).We called It TUCKAHOE.I have wonderful memories of week-ends spent there and feeling privileged by having a part of history. The farm at that time was also a wonderful teaching tool.Besides inviting friends from our home in Washington DC area to visit the farm , my wife and I ( both social workers/educators) invited students and local traditional craftmen and musicians from time to time to have "Appalachian Awareness" week-ends at the farm where the young learned from the old and traditional folkways and music were explored and enjoyed. In walking through the fields and sitting on the porch and I often felt the presence of the roughed mountain families(Trumps and Lillys) who carved lives out in this special place long ago.Selling the farm to the government was not an easy decision for us but it was the right one--Now all can enjoy
