Our New Home in Germany

We live in Germany, hooray!! Moving day went very smoothly yesterday, with a mostly pleasant and easy drive across Belgium, across a bit of the Netherlands, and into Germany. We stopped at a rest stop just over the German border and even the fast food available there looked and smelled delicious.

We found our apartment with no problem thanks to sat-nav, and our new landlord came out to meet us when we drove up. The apartment is really great. It is immaculately clean and nearly everything is shiny and new. All the furnishings appear to be IKEA, which means they are sleek and modern but of course also a bit flimsy.

One of the coolest things is how many rooms it has, which makes it feel really homey. There is a bedroom, a bathroom with shower and tub, a sizable kitchen with dining table, a large office with loveseat, and a living room with TV! The office is especially lovely, and David has already set up my desktop computer on a smooth black desk beneath a skylight. And there is room for him to have his desk (a folding Costco table) in here too, plus bookshelves!

Last night we went to our local grocery store for a few basics, which as always was a fun cultural experience. We are in such a non-touristy area (a nondescript suburb town north of Bonn) that English is not widely spoken so it feels good and foreign. Let the learning by immersion begin!

Now we are heading out to do some exploration!
