Snowy Arrival in Berlin

posted March 4, 2008 by Holly Hayes part of trip: Kentucky

David here reporting that we have made it to Berlin safely and are having a great time despite very cruddy weather. This morning I woke to find it actually snowing outside! Not exactly what we are looking for right now but still fun. Here are some pictures from the doorway of our hotel:

We have done better then usual at getting to know the city train system, which is good as our hotel is about 15 mins out of the center of the city in what used to be East Berlin. I have enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and trying to imagine what it was like here 20 years ago. Not quite what I was expecting as it is a bright and cheerful neighborhood despite the gloomy weather.

Anyway, here are more pictures from our first evening walk around the city. First the unique city walk signal that both of us really like:

The city outline and TV tower:

The Dom:

Yesterday we spent most of the afternoon going through two giant museums and took over a thousand pictures (so expect another post soon). Again a surprise for me as I had no idea how many museums and historical exhibits they have here. The quality of both of these museums was right up there with the best of them too. Good stuff for sure!
