  • Mary Todd Lincoln House Lexington, Kentucky

    Originally built in 1806 as an inn, this Georgian-style brick building was the childhood home of Mary Todd Lincoln, first lady and wife of Abraham Lincoln, from 1832 to 1839. It is now a museum open for tours.

    Early to mid C17, refronted in mid C18. Large rubble stone inn probably originally including Portwell House to east. 3-storey and attic with steep stone tiled roof and 2 renewed large chimney stacks with diagonal brick shafts on stone base.

    C18, and later. The main facade faces west and comprises a blind arcade of 5 units, each bay containing a window on the first and ground-floor. Red tile roofing, rounded at the south-west corner, moulded brick dentil eaves.

    Originally an inn for pilgrims on the road to Santiago, this parish church was greatly enlarged by wealthy merchants in 1491. It is best known for sheltering the tomb of the artist Peter Paul Rubens.

    The manor house of Great Milton, located next to the village church, was built in the 15th century and remodeled in the 17th. Today it is home to the hotel and gourmet restaurant La Manoir aux Quat'Saisons.

    This historic hotel in southern Oregon was built in 1883, catering to stagecoach travelers en route between San Francisco and Portland. Now part of a state park, the Wolf Creek Inn is the oldest operating hotel in Oregon.

    House, now public house. Late C16 or early C17, altered in C19 and C20. Timber-framed, now clad in plaster with applied painted half-timbering.

    Built c. 1811 for General John Cuthbert, the Cuthbert House is "typical of Beaufort's gracious waterfront homes and is an important component of The Beaufort Historic District" (National Register).
