From humble beginnings as a small log chapel on the banks of the Mississippi (1841), the Cathedral of St. Paul now inhabits its fourth building, an impressive Beaux-Arts edifice begun in 1907. The cathedral was designated the National Shrine of the Apostle Paul in 2009.
