Beverley Minster

Possibly the best Gothic parish church in England, the cathedral-sized Beverley Minster spans the Early English, Decorated and Perpendicular Gothic periods.

Nave Ceiling
England
The wooden ceiling of the nave was painted in 1858 by two gifted amateurs, Henry Styleman le Strange and his friend Thomas Gambier Parry. They painted the ceiling in situ, on their backs on scaffolding in poor light, like Michelangelo.

Chancel Vault
England
The beautiful lierne vault of the chancel was created around 1500 by William Orchard. Its intricate starlike patterns create an image of heaven and 12 pendants hang gracefully from it.

Nave Vault

The stone vault of the nave is in the Early English style, decorated with roof bosses in red, green and gold. Some depict figurative scenes.
