View of Villa del Balbianello on the west shore of Lake Como. The villa was built in 1787 for Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini on the site of a Franciscan monastery. The towers survive from the convent church. Famed for its beautiful gardens, the villa is now a museum owned by the National Trust of Italy. It has featured in several movies, including Ocean's Twelve (2004), Casino Royale (2006), and Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones (2002). David Joyal all photos →

Built in 1787, this lovely villa overlooking Lake Como includes part of an old Franciscan convent and contains a rich collection of art and furniture.
