Description of the Arena di Verona

The Roman amphitheatre, or arena, of Verona dates from around 20-30 CE and is very well preserved. Its original two tiers of arches are almost entirely intact and four bays of the original outer wall survive. Several restorations have been undertaken since the Middle Ages. The arena is the third-largest extant Roman amphitheatre in the world (after Rome and Capua), measuring 152 x 123 m and seating over 20,000 spectators. Today it hosts open-air opera concerts.
